Fairless Hills was built in 1951 to house workers at the massive U.S. Steel Fairless Works plant along the Delaware River. Named for Benjamin Fairless, then president of U.S. Steel, the community grew from prefabricated homes built by Gunnison Magichomes.
At its peak in 1974, over 8,000 people worked at the Fairless Works. While the plant has largely closed, the community it built remains vibrant, with restaurants serving families who have called Fairless Hills home for generations.
